Starkey: What’s new?
When it comes to thinking about how clients want to use technology, Starkey are one of the best in the industry. Over the last few years, Starkey have produced a highly water resistant and oleophobic (oil proof) protection feature, six-microphone binaural synchronisation system and arguably the worlds best feedback elimination technology. But their biggest news is about to break. starkey is one of only two companies selected by Apple to collborate in the first Made for iPhone hearing technologies. Starkey call theirs HALO. We have not been told much yet but we were there in Las Vegas in January for the global product innovation announcement. Very exciting!
Starkey's superior feedback elimination maintains their dominance in the high quality invisible hearing aids category, with products like Soundlens, that are especially efficient in noisy environments, and can be controlled right from your smartphone!
Plus, to prove they are not afraid to get clients closer to the action, they also provide us with an iPad App that allows you to interact directly with the programming parameters at the time of the fitting.
Behind the Scenes
Starkey is a world leader in hearing device technology design, manufacture and distribution globally. Starkey is a privately owned American company with 63 offices around the world, based out of Minnesota. They believe that hard work, the right work and persistence wins the day. Their founder, Bill Austin, offers a quote that belies the heart of the organisation; “better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today” so you won’t find Starkey reacting wildly to changing market dynamics, but staying the course. The Executive team combined, have over 355 years in the industry and the current President, Jerry Ruzicka, has worked at Starkey for more than 30 years, starting out as an entry-level technician in the lab.
Recently, Principal Audiologist Rachel Deane, was invited to an Expo for Starkey hearing innovation where she saw and experienced what lies at the heart of the Starkey spirit. Simply, it's about always doing 'good work', and helping others. More than any other hearing technology company, Rachel was moved with the entire organisations obvious authenticity. There were 400 staff present, genuinely embracing this core philosophy. It was an incredible experience. Starkey operates the most active philathropic organisations in the industry. The Starkey Foundation, has a full-time team that travel the world to under-privileged communities where they give the gift of hearing. In 2013 alone, Starkey Foundation fitted over 165, 000 devices comprising over a million in the past 10 years! It is little wonder this impressive initiative has attracted ambassadors such as Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, George W Bush, sports stars, actors and musicians such as Whoopi Goldberg and Garth Brooks.
In Australia, Starkey owns a chain of hearing clinics, mainly in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia called iHear. At these clinics they are almost solely dedicated to fitting Starkey products. Our clinical approach is different. Instead of recommending a product from one range, we will understand you, your specific needs and then source from all world-leading companies the best technology match, that is easy to use and offers the best value solution.
Invisible Hearing Aid Style
No other company has made a device so small and so smart. The Phonak Lyric is not as technologically advanced nor is custom made - but the Soundlens is. We often take pictures of our clients fittings. See for yourself
Ever met anyone who has a hearing aid that whistles all the time? It can be infuriating for several parties involved. Starkey have long held top spot when it comes to technology that automatically eliminates this whistling, whilst maintaining clear speech and zero distortion.
How do the Starkey 110, 90 and 70 models differ?
Starkey labels its premium technology as 110, its advanced level as 90 and its mid range as 70. If you see an 'i' in front of these model numbers you will know that it is capable of wireless processing, streaming and binaural communication. Each of the styles at each level all look the same externally but, internally, offer a different level of sound processing sophistication. The 110 model numbers offer the most features and greatest frequency resolution. This means smarter ways to control background noise, enhance speech clarity and deliver a more natural sound. If you have a particularly complex hearing loss configuration or listening need then this will be important to you. Book a complimentary consultation to find out which of the Starkey models best suit you.
